Unbuilt Toronto: More of the
city that might have been
Discover
more of Toronto's most fascinating planning,
transit and
architectural "what - if's", as MARK
OSBALDESTON presents an
illustrated talk on his new book Unbuilt
Toronto 2: More of
the city that might have been. Among other
topics, learn about
the early plans for the Royal Ontario Museum, a
magnetically
levitated light rail transit system that the
provincial government
actually started to build in the 1970s, and how
Toronto would look
today if it had hosted the Olympics in 1996.
Copies of the book will
be available for purchase.
Police detectives and criminals in turn-of-the-century Toronto
Toronto writer BILL GLADSTONE presents an illustrated talk on some notable Toronto police detectives in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, along with some of the most notorious criminals they brought to justice, based on stories retrieved from the city's daily newspapers of more than a century ago.
Bill Gladstone is a noted Toronto author, journalist, genealogist and publisher.
The Toronto rebellion of 1837 and North Toronto: Not just Montgomery's Tavern
While the first and last acts of the uprising near Toronto in 1837 played out at Montgomery's Tavern, the area to the north and south of the building from roughly the present day Bloor street to the 401 was the center of much of the action in December of that year.
In this illustrated talk, DR. RON STAGG, professor of history at Ryerson University, will put the rebellion in the context of the issues of the day. He will provide an overview of the events of the uprising with particular emphasis on the area roughly encompassing North Toronto. This year marks the 175th anniversary of the rebellion.
